12V Lithium Battery Fuse Holder – Class T Style
Bolts directly to your positive battery terminal for maximum short circuit protection.
Why do I need one?
One of the best things about lithium batteries is how powerful they are. However, this can also be a downside, because normal fuses may not be able to safely interrupt the extremely high current available during a direct short circuit.
A typical lithium battery can produce 10,000–15,000A in a direct short circuit due to its very low internal resistance.
At currents this high, typical fuses such as MEGA fuses may not be able to safely interrupt the fault. In extreme cases, the fuse can continue to arc internally, allowing current to keep flowing and creating a serious fire risk.
Quality MEGA fuses typically have a maximum interrupting capacity of around 2,000–2,500A, which is significantly lower than the potential short-circuit current available from a lithium battery.
Won’t my lithium battery’s BMS protect me?
A high-quality BMS can protect against smaller over-current events and some short circuits.
However, in a severe direct short circuit, the current can be high enough to damage the MOSFETs inside the BMS. If they fail short-circuit, current may continue to flow through the BMS.
This is why a properly rated external fuse is still an important part of lithium battery protection.
High Interrupting Capacity
Our lithium-compatible fuses are rated to interrupt up to:
20,000A at 125V DC
This is well within the potential short-circuit current range of typical lithium battery systems.
These fuses have a similar interrupting capacity to Class T fuses. However, they are not Class T fuses, as they do not meet all of the other characteristics and requirements that define a true Class T fuse.
Universal Fuse Holder
Our fuse holders are designed to mount directly to a wide range of lithium batteries.
They will suit batteries where the battery terminal stud is positioned approximately 3mm–25mm from the battery case.
